Clear skies, crisp air, red, orange, yellow leaves, a dozen fresh apples. Today I’m making the perfect healthy apple sauce. It tastes of autumn and melt-in-your-mouth apple pies.
This healthy apple sauce is perfect in so many ways: it is easy to make, it has an amazing flavor, it goes perfectly together with many foods and is a wonderful sweetener for many vegan treats. Some of my sweet recipes using this perfect healthy apple sauce: Caramel apple pie smoothie, Lingonberry coconut porridge and Fig pizza pie.
- 9 small apples
- 2 tbsp maple syrup (or to taste)
- 2 tsp lemon juice
- 1 tsp Ceylon cinnamon
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- Preheat oven to 150C/300F.
- Wash apples well and chop them into 4-6 pieces.
- Put into a casserole dish and bake for 1 hour.
- After 1 hour, turn off the heat, cover the casserole dish (put a lid on) and let it sit in the oven for another hour.
- Take the dish out of the oven and let cool for a while.
- When cooled for ~15 minutes blend all ingredients in a food processor or high speed blender to achieve a smooth, almost fluffy consistency. This could take 5 or even 15 minutes depending on the power of the processor.
- Store in the fridge in a glass jar for up to 2 weeks.
